Camels of Oman

You:
Wanderer through heated afternoon sands,
Nomad of the cold evenings of deserts,
De-sensitised to weather.

Stray long, hid tall in sandstorms,
Stand stooped, needling short spiky, shrubs,
Adaptable, chewing absorber of heat and cold.

Equanimity writ on your head held high,
Nostrils Insulated to flying rumour sands,
Humped conservator of reserves.

Lead your tribes in majestic strolls,
Cavalry leader in desert wars,
Spit in contempt at deserters.

A performer in adversity,
The grand survivor,
Warm, detached, leader.

Subsist in tribulation.
Immune to misfortune,
Communion with Nature.
